Welcome to the UCML Website
The University Council of Modern Languages (UCML) was established in 1993 when representatives of universities, scholarly and professional associations and other organisations concerned with the study and teaching of modern languages agreed that there was a need for a broad national body which could speak with a single voice and effectively represent the interests of modern languages in higher education.
Its membership includes more than 100 schools and departments of modern languages in universities and colleges of higher education throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, together with professional and scholarly associations in the field of modern languages, and public and private educational organisations concerned with study, teaching and research into modern languages, linguistics and cultural and area studies.
